Physical DescriptionTranslucent deep blue glass; blown; tooled; handle applied; gilded. Ewer with egg-shaped body; rim outsplayed, folded inward and rounded; short cylindrical neck; flat shoulder, rounded at edge; upper part of side almost straight but with very slight bulge, lower part curves in to bottom; hollow conical foot made from separate gather, with rim ground smooth; no pontil mark. Handle applied to edge of shoulder and drawn up in three ribs. Two bands of decoration, on neck and body. On neck: between two horizontal lines, garland consisting of stem with pair of lozenge-shaped leaves; below this, band of contiguous lozenges above horizontal line. On body, two standing figures bearing in both hands vine branches which occupy entire space between them: (A) below handle, male wearing short tunic, mantle draped over left forearm and calf-length boots or puttees; (B) on opposite side, female wearing ankle-length dress, bare footed. Immediately above figures and branches, on edge of shoulder, traces of garland similar to that on neck. Beneath (B), near bottom, neatly drilled hole, D: 0.3 cm.
