Physical Description(A) Translucent deep blue, opaque white glasses; cast or blown, handle cut on wheel, body cased and carved (cameo technique). Rim, part of wall and handle of skyphos; wall curves inward as upper part of semi-ovoid body; vertical handle attached to rim and wall with attachment extending along rim and terminating in roughly semicircular projection; handle has round finger hole, pointed horizontal thumb rest and short, drooping finger rest; top of handle cut with tongue-shaped grooves; groove also extends along junction of rim and attachment and ends in volute on top of semicircular projection. Opaque white glass mostly removed from body, leaving decoration in relief: immediately below handle, bucranium or similar motif with knotted band around top; to left, edge of indeterminate motif. (B) Translucent blue, opaque white glasses; cast or blown, handle cut on wheel, body cased and carved (cameo technique). Rim, with handle attachment and part of wall; flat rim, wall curves inward as upper part of semi-ovoid body; part of right side of handle attachment extends along rim with semicircular projection near handle and narrow scrolling flange beyond it; one lathe-cut groove on top of rim and one immediately below it on inner side. Opaque white glass mostly removed from outside of wall, leaving decoration in relief: part of vine leaf with veins indicated by shallow incisions.Provenance
