Physical DescriptionCovered Goblet. Colorless lead glass; blown and engraved. (a) Large ogee bowl; copper-wheel engraved with elaborate coat of arms of Koefoed family, with script "HK" in plinth; reverse with script inscription: "Det aedle Blod som flod i Borenholmske Aarer,/ Det rinder og endnue i Kiobenhavn, /Ja' Norge selv av dette nyder Gavn,/Og ofrer dette Glas, og onsker Vel som Taarer!"; straight stem, with triple mereses at top and bottom, containing an opaque white enamel twist, composed of a spiral gause, encircled by a pair of corkscrews; domed foot, with copper-wheel engraved foliate band, interspersed with four vignettes, representing the Four Seasons; rough pontil mark on underside of foot. (b) Domed, circular shape, with tapered flange; copper-wheel engraved with a foliate band, interspersed with four vignettes representing the four elements (Air, Earth, Fire, Water); four flat mereses at top, surmounted by a crown finial, composed of a straight, central shaft containing an opaque white enamel twist matching that on the goblet stem, surmounted by a spherical knop and cross; seven trailed and milled loops, attached at base and disk at top.
