Physical DescriptionColorless flat glass; painted or enameled; lead canes; metal fixtures. Hanging lampshade supported by rope cords attached to smaller ceiling fixture. (a) Hanging lampshade of conical form ends at top in metal fixture with four crimped metal components screwed in place as attachments for cords; sixteen glass panels form sides of the shade, each painted white inside and decorated outside with an abstract geometric motif of straight and wavy lines and areas of color in black, orange, orange-yellow, and gray; shade terminates in wide, scalloped metal rim; inside shade, a single ceramic and metal fixture for one lightbulb. (b) Ceiling fixture with pod shape attached to inverted, stepped cylindrical metal fixture; the point of the pod shape shade points downward when fixture is installed against ceiling; eight glass panels form sides of the shade, each painted white on the inside and decorated outside with an abstract geometric motif, less elaborate than (a) but with similar colors of black, orange, orange-yellow, and gray; with fixture for one light bulb; four black braided cords with ovoid wooden stays at each end connect (a) to (b), as does an electrical cord running through centers of (a) and (b); unsigned.Provenance
