Interpretive Notes
After Gallé’s death in 1904, the glassworks continued under the direction of his widow, Henriette Gallé. At the outbreak of World War I, in 1914, the company suspended production. It reopened in 1919 under the direction of Gallé’s son-in-law, and it continued to produce art glass until 1936, when the glassworks was closed.

Physical DescriptionTransparent light amber, dark amber and translucent pinkish opal cased glass and gold foil; mold-blown, cased, and cut. Gourd form; circular upper rim with small pulled spout; cylindrical neck swells to bulbous upper body which curvilinearly tapers and swells to smaller bulbous lower body; body is acid-etched with grapes, grape leaves and vines; square handle with gold foil is attached at upper rim and neck and again at shoulder, with the lower portion following the body contour to mid-body; annular knop; round edge pedestal foot is acid-etched with grapes, grape leaves and vines; acid-etched near lower handle attachment: "Galle".
