Physical DescriptionOpaque multi-colored glass; micromosaic, brass, photographic prints; fused, pulled, cut, polished, glued. Micromosaic cross with malmischiato and monochrome canes set onto a brass base; a central photographic portrait of Pope Pius XII is mounted on the cross-section and roundels with handcolored photos are placed on the end of each of the four arms. These are closely packed with small cane sections depicting ornamental palmettes the photo frames, and decorative floral fields; the different ornamental sections are outlined by twisted wires which are soldered onto the metal backing. The photos depict the St. John Lateran (left), the St. Peter's cathedral (top), St. Peter's outside the Walls (right), and Santa Maria Maggiore (bottom).Provenance
