Physical DescriptionColorless glass; cast or pressed, acid-polished. Solid block: regular pentagonal horizontal cross-section; flat top with cylindrical socket for candle and beveled edges; vertical side and flat bottom; underside with etched mark or sand-blasted mark: "RIEDEL" (retrograde); attached to top, maker's printed label in black on white paper: in cartouche, "VORSIGHT! / Kerze nicht vollständig / hinunterbrennen! / ATTENTION! / Take care that candles do / not burn into holder!"; attached to side, maker's printed label in white on black paper: in cartouche, "Handmade in Austria / RIEDEL / since 1756 / lead crystal / over 24% PbO / 1/89".
