Interpretive Notes
The drinking glasses on view in this case are functional, but they are not examples of commercial design. They are crafted objects, designs made by hand in limited numbers. The intent of these objects is not to reflect the best design of, or use for, a drinking glass, but to offer a personal alternative that addresses the more emotional values and sensibilities of the artist and the user.
Physical Description"New Mexico" Goblet. Colorless and translucent purple glass, with cream, gray and blue decoration; purple gather marvered to pick up particles of cream, gray and blue, then cased in colorless; blown, tooled. Tulip-shaped bowl. Rim: plain, rounded; wall descends almost vertically, then tapers inward to bottom; stem solid, narrow, with vertical side which splays at bottom and merges with low conical foot which is slightly concave on underside and has pontil mark. Bowl is purple cased with colorless, decorated with network of streaks and swirls of cream, gray and blue which in places create marbled effect; stem and foot colorless.
