Interpretive Notes
When designing this bottle as a disembodied mouth and nose, Surrealist artist Salvador Dalí drew inspiration from his own painting of the goddess Aphrodite, painted when he was 77 years old. This is the only bottle in this group that was designed for a specific scent, in this case a concoction of jasmine, rose, mandarin, and sandalwood described by his secretary as a “floral choir.”
Physical Description"Laguna" eau de toilette spray by Salvador Dali in original box. a) Bottle, transparent blue-green glass, opaque plastic, metal; blown into mold by machine, acid-etched, assembled. b) Lid, translucent blue-green plastic; cast by machine. a) Shaped like a pair of lips back to back with cylindrical plastic spray. b) Cap shaped like two noses back to back, hollowed out in center to fit over sprayer; top slanted downward.
