Physical DescriptionColorless glass, 22k gold; blown, enameled, sand-blasted [ ] polished. Hemispherical bowl rounding slightly to rim atop solid stem composed of two globular knops atop solid conical foot; gold band at rim, on top knop and edge of foot. Decorated with Latin motto at rim "CALYX AUREUS, HENRICUS IACOBUS MCMIII, MERCATOR EBUR MMI" (The Golden Bowl, Henry James 1903, Merchant Ivory 2001). Sides of bowl are decorated with winged archangels in arches divided by columns.Provenance
