Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass, wood; reverse-painted, gilded. Flat, rectangular sheet, painted on the reverse side with a depiction of Christ on the Road to Calvary, derived from the painting known as "Lo Spasimo di Sicilia" by Raphael. The central, kneeling figure of Christ carrying the Cross is robed in dark blue, the Cross guilt. On the right are four soldiers urging him on. On the left a group of four saints in red and blue. In the left background are Pontius Pilate (?) and a priest mounted on horses, in dark brown and gold-leaf gilding. On the right is a mounted soldier in armor, holding a banner and pointing to a path leading to Calvary with the three crosses in the distance and mountains behind. The scene is delineated in black, like a print, and filled in with color. Original, profiled wooden frame.Provenance
