Interpretive Notes
This vase was produced by Loetz for E. Bakalowits & Söhne, a specialty retailer in Vienna. It was designed by Hubert Gessner, an architect who created works in glass only for Bakalowits, and Franz Hofstötter, a well-known glass painter and designer for Loetz.
Physical DescriptionColorless, opal, orange-red, dark brown and dark blue glass; silver stain, iridescence; mold-blown and hot-worked. Opal glass underlay. Large vase with a scalloped rim that narrows to long neck then widens at shoulder and narrows slightly to base.
