Physical DescriptionFragment of Beaker. Almost colorless, perhaps with yellowish tinge; decorated in gold and white, light blue, light green, yellow, and red, all of which are opaque. Blown; gilded, enameled. Fragment of beaker. Wall (Th. 0.1-0.2 cm) is straight and tapering. Decoration consists of parts of two registers. Upper register: two horizontal rows of birds, of which two survive in upper row and two in lower row. All birds are similar, with red outlines filled with solid color. Each has small head with circular eye and long, pointed beak; neck is long and narrow; body tapers to pointed tail; wings, one of which is raised and other points downward, have long, narrow feathers; legs, instead of being long, bent, and slender, are rather schematic. Birds in upper row are flying from right to left, one behind other; leading bird has white body and wings and gilded legs, while second bird has gilded beak and red lower wing. Birds in lower row are flying from left to right. Leading bird has blue head, neck, body, and wings, and gilded legs, while second bird has yellow head and neck. In both rows, birds are separated by single green dot.Provenance
