Interpretive Notes
Royal Flemish glass, which was made with a variety of enameled and gilded decorations from 1888 to 1895, was extremely popular. Although the name would point to a European origin, the decoration is not based on Flemish designs.
Physical DescriptionColorless glass decorated with applied gold and paint; blown, enameled, gilded, tooled, applied. Vase has narrow foot, bulbous body, and tall narrow neck that flares slightly in middle. Vase is painted with gold, yellow, green and brown. Neck is decorated with floral motif. Body is decorated with various geometric patterns, floral designs, and three roundels featuring flowers and the head of a griffin.
