In 1988, Zynsky’s palette included a lot of black and very bright, contrasting colors, inspired by sights Zynsky had seen in her travels, such as the plumage of tropical birds or African textiles in a marketplace. “For research, I travel and look at all kinds of things,” Zynsky says. “Things that are an enrichment and pleasure to look at. My work is about being alive.”
