Interpretive NotesThe economic and artistic success of Bohemian colored glass in the second quarter of the 19th century led to the founding of many new glassworks. Loetz was one of these. Established in 1836, it was taken over in 1852 by Johann Loetz’s widow, Susanna. She renamed the firm Johann Loetz Witwe (Widow). Its most successful years were 1879 to 1908, when the factory was directed by Max Ritter von Spaun, the grandson of Johann Loetz.
