Stacey Neff blows glass into extenuated forms that are gestural and seem full of movement, as if they were in the process of transforming into something else. The individual pieces are wrapped in fiberglass cloth and coated with resin before they are fitted together. The tension between perceived motion and stasis animates this oversized sculpture, part of Neff's "Biomythology" series in which she explores biological and botanical forms.

Physical DescriptionSculpture, "Spatial Negotiation II." Transparent blown recycled glass, fiberglass, steel, mixed media; blown, cut, assembled. Circular steel base with long branch-like sculpture. Sculpture was made by first blowing large thin glass forms and annealing wrapped in fiber blanket on the floor. Then forms were wrapped in fiberglass cloth and resin; cut and assembled into the larger sculpture. The piece is finished with a clear coat and attached to a steel base.
