Interpretive Notes
Tiffany Furnaces produced several shades of red glass, and the glassworks experimented with various colors and formulas. Samian red, which was introduced in 1909, is named after the ancient red-glazed ceramics, called Samian ware, that were made in Gaul (France) and elsewhere during the Roman period.
Physical DescriptionLead glass; blown, applied shoulder and decoration. Red vase with black foot, shoulder, and neck/rim. Neck tapers in slightly and flares out to rim. Black shoulder and red portion of neck decorated with blue/silver design.
