Interpretive Notes
The architectonic shapes, fragile granular textures, and rough edges of Trinkley’s pâte de verre vessels give the impression of great age. Her work is inspired by ancient ruins, by the Roman glass vessels that are known as cage cups, and by patterns found in the art of ancient and indigenous cultures.
Physical DescriptionSculpture, "Pink and Blue Amphora." Pink, blue, green and brown glass frit, kiln-cast pate de verre. Rough granular surface retains traces of white plaster and refractory mold-making material. Large amphora shape with cylindrical neck, flaring open mouth, and two spiral handles at the top; tall body tapers from the shoulder to the round base. Body from shoulder to base has an openwork pattern consisting of registers of stylized animals on the front and back of the vessel, and registers of abstract elements on the sides beneath the handles.
