Physical Description(A) Thermometer. Colorless and translucent white glass, black enamel, mercury; blown, tooled, enameled, assembled. Cylindrical colorless glass tube with tooled ball knop at top end. Tube contains a translucent white insert with black enameled gradated markings running from negative 10 to 100 degrees Celsius and a thin tube filled with mercury. Back of insert inscribed "Corning Natural Glass Arthur H. Thomas Co.. Philada. U.S.A. Total Immersion No. 25031" in black enamel. Back of outer glass tube inscribed "BSN°37772". (B) Thermometer. Colorless and translucent white glass, black enamel, mercury; blown, tooled, enameled, assembled. Cylindrical colorless glass tube with tooled ball knop at top end. (D) Original Thermometer Case. Wood, black leather, black velvet, metal fixtures; assembled. Black rectangular case with cushioned velvet insert for three matching thermometers. Two metal latches on front. Top inscribed, "ARTHUR H. THOMAS CO. / PHILADELPHIA U.S.A." in gold lettering.
