Interpretive NotesIn 1907, the jewelry designer René Lalique was approached by the famous perfumer François Coty to design a label for a perfume bottle. As the story goes, Lalique was insulted by this task, and instead offered to design the whole bottle. The idea of developing a unique vessel for a specific fragrance was completely new at the time and set Lalique on the path of designing iconic glass bottles for several French perfumers, some of which are also on display here.
