Physical DescriptionDeep amethyst glass; mold-blown; plain lip, pontil mark, matte surface. Obverse: so-called corset-waisted; large frame formed by ribs, scrolled at the top and looped at the bottom, giving an ogival effect and with parallel inner frame containing inscription "J R & SON". Large pearl shaped ornament above inscription; two similar large pearl shaped ornaments below each curved line of the inner frame. Two similar pearls either side of upper line of frame below top scrolls; the inner frame terminates in long oval ornament within each and similar oval ornament within each loop at bottom of frame; five-petaled motif below each end of frame at base. Reverse: similar large frame scrolled at top and bottom containing large conventionalized fleur-de-lis ornament instead of inner frame at top and similar five-petaled motif beneath scrolls below frame at bottom; crescent shaped ornament connects the bottom scrolls of the frame. Edges: heavy vertical medial rib.Provenance
