Physical DescriptionRuby glass cased in colorless glass; blown, tooled, cold-worked, gilt and enameled. In two sections, the vase with waisted neck and everted rim, above a knobbed stem and domed foot. Faceted cylindrical stand in the shape of a doric column. vase has assembled handles on opposing sides, and entire ensemble is decorated in an eclectic mixture of classical motifs and scrolling foliage that suggestes Renaissance decoration or even arabesques. One of the original handles was broken at Sotheby's and replacement handles were fabricated. Object arrived with three separate handles: two originals, one broken, and one modern reproduction.
