Interpretive Notes
This sugar bowl of the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company of Sandwich, MA, was acquired by the Museum in 2007 and has a cut decoration pattern called "Star and Comet.” This shape and pattern was probably in production during the 1860's and 1870's: it is shown in a Boston & Sandwich catalog printed around 1874.
Physical DescriptionColorless glass; blown, tooled, applied, cut, engraved, polished. Globular sugar bowl engraved with star and comet pattern and old English "R" , galleried rim, tooled straight stem with cut sides, applied circular base with star cut into the underside and polished pontil. Matching lid has applied cut knop, cut panels and is engraved with star and comet pattern.
