Interpretive Notes
Like rock and roll translated into glass, this installation embodies youthful rebellion and individual presence. Though Nielsen’s work can seem self-involved—those numbers are his phone number—he’s actually working to bring attention to the world of Swedish glass. Underneath their car-paint surfaces, his pitchers are made by rolling other artists’ pieces into the molten glass, capturing the evolving history of Swedish glass in their forms.
Physical DescriptionInstallation, "I was here". Glass, automotive paint, wood; blown. Room installation that consists of floorboards, walls and three wooden pedestals, all of which are spray painted with the artist's phone number, and two glass sculptures that sit atop the painted pedestals.
