Provenance
Source Marian L. Shatto - 1994-07-24-2016-09-09
Marian L. Shatto purchased bottle from Weis Markets in Lititz, Pennsylvania on July 24, 1994 for $3.49

The donation is accompanied by the original itemized cash register receipt and a newspaper clipping from the Intelligencer Journal in Lancaster, PA, dated July 19, 1994 describing the transition to the new bottle.

The Lititz, Pennsylvania source for this bottle is neither accidental nor insignificant. The town became a major manufacturing center of Warner-Lambert products (including Listerine) in the 1950s, when the cosmetic company Warner-Hudnut and the Lambert Pharmacal Company, which made Listerine, merged. Elmer Bobst (American, 1884-1978), who had grown up in Lititz, was instrumental in the merger and presumably the relocation of the industry to Pennsylvania.
