Interpretive Notes
The beveled edges to the left and right of the glass suggest it was reused from an earlier frame. Large sheets of mirrored glass were extremely expensive and rarely wasted.
Physical DescriptionMirror in Carved and Gilded Wood Frame. Mercury-tin amalgam mirrored plate glass, wood; carved, assembled, gilded. A large, oval looking glass in a gilded-wood frame, ornately carved to a scrolling foliate design. The revealing two shallow bevels on either side, suggesting reuse from an earlier time.
