Physical DescriptionJar with Hunting Scene. Colorless glass with greenish tinge, few small bubbles; blown, abraded. Globular jar; rim cracked off, ground; neck tapers, then curves outward to merge with globular body; narrow flat base; pontil mark removed by grinding; abraded decoration in continuous frieze around body: at top, inscription in capital letters with prominent serifs: VITABONAPRVAMVRFELICES, Vita bona fruamur felices (with P in error for F in FRVAMUR), 'Let us fortunate ones enjoy a good life'; below, hunter, facing right, possibly wearing radiate crown, dressed in tunic and boots, holds bow in left hand, with right hand raised as though he has just fired an arrow and quiver slung on back; in front of him, hound pursuing hind, which looks back over shoulder, and two stags; in front of them, another animal with shaggy coat, clumps of foliage resembling palmettes, leaf sprays and dots; on base, inside two concentric circles, which form ground line of frieze, rosette with eighteen pointed petals.
