Physical DescriptionWhite translucent glass, with light pink and blue translucent enamels, blue, deep blue, green, yellow, orange, white and black opaque enamels, gilding; blown, enameled, gilded. Roughly globular. Rim everted, with plain rounded lip; body has greatest diameter above mid-point; base plain, with rounded profile, hollow inside, slightly concave underneath; no pontil mark. Decorated outside with continuous horizontal band comprising 3 identical groups of motifs, gilded black band on lip and band of gilding on top of foot. Each group of motifs consists of small quatrefoil surrounded by 2 concentric octofoils; background between concentric ocotofoils is light blue, background inside inner octofoil and outside outer octofoil is light pink; small quatrefoils are outlined in deep blue and contain deep blue flowers, on background enlivened with gilding; inner octofoils outlined in black overlain by continuous row of white dots and gilding; spaces between outlines and quatrefoils contain blue and green scrolling tendrils partly outlined by gilding, and 8 small flowers, each with orange dot at center and 5 yellow or white dots to indicate petals, yellow flowers alternating with white; spaces between inner and outer octofoils are occupied by continuous sprays of flowers alternating with petals, outlined in black and gilded; outer octofoils are identical to inner octofoils; spaces above and below outer octofoils are triangular and divided by continuous deep blue lines into 3 downward-pointing triangles above continuous band of ornament and 3 upward-pointing triangles below continuous band of ornament; all triangles contain one-half of deep blue flower, as in central quatrefoils; both continuous bands contain tendrils and flowers, as between quatrefoils and inner octofoils.Provenance
