Interpretive Notes
The outside cotton surface of this ornament for the head is densely embroidered with multi-colored opaque and translucent seed beads. A band of hexagonal shapes outlines the edge of the headband; the center has a blue ground and is decorated with a symmetrical pattern of tendrils, buds, and blossoms, followed in the corner by a butterfly.
Physical DescriptionBeaded Headband. Multi-colored glass beads, leather, twill; beaded embroidery. Beaded headband constructed of two symmetrical, tear-shaped flaps; they are lined with a stiff material (possibly leather), covered by tan cotton on top and gray twill on the underside; cream-colored floral piping finishes the edges. The outside cotton surface is densely embroidered with multi-colored opaque and translucent seed beads. A band of hexagonal shapes outlines the edge of the headband; the center has a blue ground and is decorated with a symmetrical pattern of tendrils, buds, and blossoms, followed in the corner by a butterfly.
