Physical DescriptionSilvered Goblet with Custom Case. (a) Colorless glass, silver leaf; blown, hot-worked, applied, iridized. Goblet with conical bowl and tall stem consisting of a blown ovoid shape flanked by two waisted avolio structures. Goblet bowl is thin-walled and of tapered form with a rounded bottom and slightly uneven rim which may suggest that it was cut with shears; exterior of bowl is smooth and interior is slightly dimpled. Goblet bowl is double-layered and encases a metallic, silver leaf between two fused layers of glass; yellow swirl in wall of bowl. Foot rim is folded underneath; rough pontil marks underneath the foot and inside the bowl; goblet has a slightly iridescent surface. (b) Black leather, wood, metal fittings, blue satin; assembled. Rectangular wood box covered with black leather. Box has hinged top, metal fittings, and custom depression to hold goblet. Interior of box fitted with faded blue satin lining.Provenance
