Interpretive Notes
"Generally speaking, I’m interested in the history of pattern making, and how a simple geometry can carry culturally specific information, and then how that specific information is either preserved or lost over time. In this case, hound's-tooth has lost its original cultural specificity and gained new symbolic content over time having now been reproduced ubiquitously, no longer woven, and now occupying the world of fast fashion. I’m also interested in the relationship of glass to fabric and their overlapping histories. A quick reference is Fulvio Bianconi’s Fazoletto Vase, but we see this relationship in glass from Murano and its parallel in the lace produced in Burano as well. I think of this work as a contemporary interpretation of these aspects of material and pattern work, and this is deeply rooted in my lifelong relationship to glass." -Dylan Palmer, 2023

Physical DescriptionInstallation, "Cloak". Cloak is made up of water jet cut sheet glass tiles which mimic a hound's-tooth pattern. The glass tiles are woven together using black ties which allow it to hang down the wall and curve against the floor, displaying a fabric like quality.
