Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown glass, oil paint. Rectangular; left profile portrait of elderly man with curly gray hair wearing a black coat; flat gray-green background. Original wood backing (no longer affixed to painting) has two paper labels. The first, in script, measures 12 x 20.5 cm and reads "Portrait of Doct/Samuel Adams AE 72/Painted at Bath by/Benjamin Greenleaf November 1816". The second is a printed label of "L.A. Elliott & Co.", Boston retailer of artists supplies. Frame: ogee contoured wood, mitered corners, gilt gesso over front.Provenance
