Physical DescriptionTranslucent amethyst glass in an opaque white matrix, pitted, thick iridescent film on edges and back, repolished recently; mosaic glass or millefiori technique. Irregular fragment preserves a repetitive pattern of opaque white rods cased with a thin amethyst layer clustered together to form a central rosette of seventeen elements, this in turn is cased by a wide opaque white band alternating with two narrow amethyst bands and two narrow opaque white, the resulting polygonal cane forms an overall cell-like decorative pattern.
