Physical DescriptionColorless lead glass, translucent pink and translucent blue; blown, cased, applied, cut, polished. Colorless gather inflated slightly, filled with air traps and rolled in chips of pink and blue; inflated further and cased in colorless; feet applied; transferred to pontil to open mouth; after annealing, cut, ground and polished. Vase: conical with very thick walls and base. Rim plain with horizontal surface ground and polished; straight, tapering wall, which curves in at bottom; floor concave; three spheroid feet, each made from separate bit, with bottoms ground and polished; large pontil mark which has been cold-worked into circular patch with rasp-like surface. Decorated with air traps, colored inclusions and wheel-cutting: just below surface of interior, sixteen rows of small air traps, each row beginning shortly above floor and swirling counter-clockwise upward to rim; between inner and outer colorless layers, zone of bluish-pink inclusions which create speckled cloudy effect that occupies uppermost one-third of wall, above similar zone of blue over bluish-pink that occupies lower two-thirds of wall; exterior has wheel-cut decoration consisting of vertical-sided, flat-bottomed lines, 1.6 cm wide and 0.5 cm deep: between two horizontal lines, continuous zigzag composed of three V-shaped elements. Mark acid-etched on underside of base: ribbon inscribed "STEUBEN" in front of fleur-de-lis-like motif.
