Interpretive Notes
During the second half of the 16th century, window glass continued to be the primary product at the court glasshouse in Hall, Tyrol, but fine drinking glasses were made there as well. The glasses made at the Hall factory may have been decorated in nearby Innsbruck. (see 72.3.35)
Physical DescriptionColorless (grey) non-lead glass; blown, diamond-engraved. Tall, cylindrical bowl decorated with diamond-point engraving: formal scroll and foliage border above a triple band with spirals; two panels with rounded sides, each with stylized birds and leaves, separated by formal foliate bands, above a triple border and foliage band similar to those at the top; folded trumpet-shape foot with diamond-engraved spiral band; rough pontil mark.
