Physical DescriptionColorless lead glass; blown, engraved. Globular bowl, covered with engraving, including "FRANKLIN . D . ROOSEVELT . 32ND PRESIDENT . OF . THE . UNITED . STATES . OF . AMERICA . INAUGURATED . MARCH 4TH 1933 X" around the rim; a portrait of Roosevelt facing right, in a circular frame bearing stars, flanked by crossed flags, inscribed "FIAT" below, with an eagle above, standing on a rectangle inscribed "1933", with pendant laurel bows at either side, and inscribed "WORLD WAR II" in an arc at the left, and "PRESIDENT" in an arc at the right; two lovebirds perched on a nest, with springing hops and grape vines, inscribed below "REPEAL OF / THE / 18TH AMENDMENT / DEC 7TH / 1933"; inscribed "RE-ELECTED / NOV . 3 . 1936"; "FIRST 3 . TERM / PRESIDENT" "ELECTED / NOV . 5 . 1940" at the right; a depiction of the Federal Eagle at the right of the inscriptions, above "THE / NEW DEAL"; stem composed of two mereses above a ball knop, and a capstan; disk foot, with engraved inscription "XXX ASST . SEC . OF . NAVY . 1913-20 XXX GOV . OF . NEW . YORK . STATE . 1929-33"; polished pontil mark; engraved on the underside of the foot "Vernay" in script above "PRESIDENTIAL GLASS / 218 / MADE IN ENGLAND".
