Physical DescriptionTransparent ruby, colorless non-lead glasses; blown, overlay, gilt, enameled. (a) Tall, tubular neck, with polished, flat, gilt rim; two bands of enameled decoration below the rim, with patterns of repeated scrolls and stylized foliage; angular, gilt ring about one-third the way down the neck from the rim; two gilt circles on the sides of the neck, enclosing gilt and enameled stylized fleur-de-lis; the base of the neck with two enameled stylized bands of foliage, interspersed with gilt bands; gently spreading shoulder, above bulbous sides and tapered base; enameled decoration, including a band of gilt stylized spotted animals, and a wide band on the shoulder, with four blue heart-shaped blue cartouches, enclosing green panels with white enameled and gilt birds, the spaces between the panels and the cartouches filled with white enameled and gilt floral and foliate sprays; the spaces between the cartouches filled with white enameled and gilt birds and foliate scrolls, and small enameled and gilt ovals with stylized foliage; a narrow band of enameled and gilt scrolled foliage on the sides; the lower section of the body without enameled or gilt decoration; gilt disk knop above a spreading foot with enameled and gilt band of foliage, above a wide band of enameled and gilt decoration similar to that on the shoulders; vertical, gilt foot rim, polished flat on the bottom; inscribed "BOUTILLE PERSANE EN VERRE EOPQUE SASSANIDE" on the underside in white enameled block letters. (b) Tall, gilt, baluster-shaped finial, with conical top, flared base; attached to a bell-shaped form with wide enameled band, of four inverted gilt and blue heart-shaped cartouches enclosing white enameled and gilt birds, with white scrolls between the cartouches; gilt, rounded rim; tapered, cylindrical, hollow shank; polished flat end.
