Physical DescriptionColorless glass with greenish tinge, bubbly with much cored and black stone, some scales, thick iridescent weathering crust adhering to low spaces; blown, tooled and recently painted. Fragment preserves bottom and trailed-on base ring of a 2nd-3rd century Roman beaker; pontil area has been painted with a Romanesque head of Christ in opaque white, with highlights and details in black, wearing a red shirt with a gold mandorla and cross behind; on the reverse in the base is a red lozenge-shaped shield outlined in black with a gold XP insignia; this has been covered with a thin piece of glass which has been glued in place.
