Physical Description(a) Colorless glass, bubbly dull surface with thin iridescent film on exterior; blown and subsequently painted. Fragment preserves part of the body and base of a small 1st - 2nd century Roman beaker with thickened floor slightly kicked; on underside a scene of Christ as a good shepherd is depicted within a double concentric black circle; the bust of Christ with a nimbus and radiating cross is shown holding a reclining ram with the inscription "EC" (CE) PASTOR NEUS; the sketchy style is outlined in black and inpainted with gold; the inscription is meant to be read through the base of the glass. (b) Colorless glass, bubbly with thick white iridescent crust on exterior; blown and tooled, subsequently ground fragment preserves the foot of a small cup or beaker of the 1st-2nd century A.D. with a tubular base ring, the bottom of the vessel has been ground down in order to join it to the fragment above.Provenance
