Physical DescriptionDecanter with Stopper. Colorless lead glass; blown, mold-blown, engraved; pressed. (a) Ovoid body; tall, cylindrical neck with flared, flat rim; two trailed milled double neck rings; sloping shoulders and rounded sides; engraved heraldic eagle on the side, with barred shield on its breast, a band between the wings inscribed "LIBERTY", with stars below, around the eagle's head and neck; arrows held in one foot, a stylized branch in the other; sprays of foliage at the sides; on the reverse, an arched band with hatched arcs on both sides, inscribed "AMERICAN INDEPENDANCE" on the band; foliate sprigs below; the lower part of the sides patterned with a band of vertical ribbing; concave base with faint radial ribbing; rough pontil mark. (b) Flattened, circular shape, mounted vertically on its rim; molded radial ribbing on both sides, encircling concave centers; short, straight stem; tapered, rough-ground shank; clean break at the end. Stopper does not fit in bottle.
