Physical DescriptionTransparent dark ruby glass, probably lead; blown, mold-blown, cut. Tall, waisted neck, top incurved; trailed triple ring around the middle of the neck; rounded vertical ribbing on the lower half of the neck, ending at a polished horizontal ledge above a bulbous, ribbed, hemispherical body; stem formed of four scrolls; domed circular foot, with molded acanthus leaf border; gilt metal gadrooned lip with foliage below, handle formed as a salamander with beak-like mouth, rising from the neck, attached to the back of the rim, and with his hind feet grasping the neck; gilt metal foot band with cut triangular stylized leaves projecting over the foot rim; foot penetrated by a screw, with a square nut and brass plate holding the foot to the body of the ewer; dark red sealing wax (?) around the rim of the brass plate.
