Physical DescriptionNon-lead glass; fused with painted enamels and cast bronze. Irregular vertical panel with bronze base and pediment; central thick flat rectangular panel of four fused layers of colorless glass, sandwiched between layers are painted stylized silhouette images of automobile in gray and black, bulls in black, white horses and a large black matador with a raised foot wrapped in a rose colored cape, "ghost" image behind matador has designs and the words "le matador a Faust" (sic) scratched into the light gray color, lower left corner has small black image of a matador waving a cape and the word "bagatelle" which appears to be etched; glass panel is topped by a curved pediment of cast bronze with a free standing cat with arched back and other small animal on one side and on the other a raised semi-circle in which is incised "Matador 1984" and below the letters "ARE" one cast bronze base with partial patination; bronze base takes the form of a raised platform with one straight side forming a "slot" to support the glass, support has an attached fully modeled ankle and foot which continues the line of the painted leg of the matador, a "cut-out" foot profile foot is attached to the left of the painted foot; other side of platform is curved with an edging of a snake with a top hat encircling the small figure of a ringmaster and an elephant standing on a drum; platform rests on three short non-identical fluted columns which stand on a flat circle with incised design of a circular motif and radiating scratches; underside of base is faced with blue felt; bronze figural elements are cast from "found" miscellaneous materials and toys. Signed and dated in bronze armature "DAY'85".
