Interpretive Notes
The socketed saucer held the cup steady and prevented spillage.
Physical DescriptionCup and Saucer (trembleuse). Calcedonio, aventurine. Blown; sprinkled aventurine flakes. Bell shaped beaker with fire-polished rim and applied flat foot-ring; saucer consisting of broad foot tapering upward, with uneven base that curves to shallow plate with curved, fire-polished rim; pontil mark on base. Inside of both parts is greenish blue; outside of saucer is decorated with oval spots of aventurine glass melted into surface.
