Interpretive NotesPhysical DescriptionSnuff Bottle with Stopper Spoon. Striated transparent red glass with air bubbles and impurities, metal, ivory, cork; blown, carved, gilt. (a) Flattened ovoid form, with short cylindrical neck, the rim polished flat, and with an opening for a stopper and spoon; the shoulders and sides rounded, the faces slightly bulbous; carved oval foot rim; inscribed on the recessed base in Chinese characters "乾隆年制 Qianlong nianzhi" in seal script. (b) Domed gilt metal form, with symbol of yin-yang at the center, with the patterns of “八卦 Ba Gua” characters arranged in a circle, against a background of fine lines; double ring rim; tapered cork shank; long ivory spoon, with slender handle and pointed oval spatulate bowl.
