Physical DescriptionGilt copper alloy with opaque white, transparent red and blue glass inlays; metal elements cast, riveted, gilt; glass and other material inlaid. Rectangular plate, upper plate has pierced tongue-shaped projection bent over backwards to hold narrow oval buckle and plain backplate securely by two rivets; upper plate and buckle gilded; upper surface of plate decorated with rectangle containing cloisons: at center, cross within circle, surrounded by larger circle, which touches top and bottom of rectangle; at sides of larger circle, triangles which touch sides of rectangle, leaving triangular compartments at angles; cloisons filled as follows: in small circle, between arms of cross, garnet or red glass inlays; between circle, white substance, possibly shell; in lateral triangles, blue glass inlays (one missing); at angles, garnet or red glass inlays (two missing).Provenance
