Physical DescriptionColorless lead glass; slump cast, precision ground, hemisphere blackened in hydrogen-reduction furnace, polished, decoration "Monaired" (sandblasted) with engraved highlights. Solid cast lidded box; (a) solid square box, with chamfered corners; blackened hemispherical cavity (appearing gray through box walls), with narrow inset edge upon which lid flange rests slightly raised above box top edge; all surfaces ground and polished; inscribed in script on base near corner: "Steuben", flange surface decorated, with lightly "monaired" pattern of bird heads framed in a wreath of bramble vines, berries and flowers; (b) square lid, with wide shallow circular lens cut in top; base of lid has solid circular flange same size and placed directly opposite of upper side lens.
