Physical DescriptionColorless, metallic gold, two shades of gray lead glasses, gold, box is made of paper lined with suede-like material; pressed, acid-etched, fabricated, assembled. (a) Thick glass disc impressed on back with horizontal row of five interlocking-rings overlaying a scene (with acid-etched finish) of craggy mountains and wooded slopes; two part (front and back) gold frame around disk rim partially overlays top and bottom of glass on both sides: at top it overlays sky and follows the contour of the mountains in an undulating line, front side of gold has intaglio design (with matte finish) of a curving olive branch broken with the small insignia (Olympic flame?) of a vertical oval topped with flame tips, oval is divided into four quadrants and overlays five horizontal lines, beneath oval are two broad linear strokes, below strokes are small block letters "ALBERTVILLE 92" over five interlocking rings; base of metal rim is reverse of same curve and covers base of slopes, decorated with intaglio block letters "ALBERTVILLE 92/SVIES JEUX OLUMPIQUES D'HIVER - XVI OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES"; top of rim has extending low rectangular ribbon support; (b) gray rectangular hinged box of leather-grained paper, top impressed in dark gray with center ovoid logo (as described above) over block letters "ALBERTVILLE 92", over five interlocking rings, inside of box padded with gray suede-like material, inside cover impressed with same design as exterior, in base is circular inset section to hold medal; inscribed in script at lower left outer edge of glass: "Lalique ®".
