Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, enameled, gilt. (Aa) Gourd shape, with narrow, cylindrical neck and flared, three-lobed, wavy lip; gilt rim; ovoid body over a larger, ovoid lower section; enameled tan label on the side, imitating a parchment scroll, inscribed in orange and brown "Ein Schnapschen sei es noch so klein, /Wird gut stets furs Befinden sein."; enameled green leaves above and below, with bunches of bright orange berries; enameled yellow and brown cord with tassels and enameled bright orange "seal" decorated with a wineglass in relief, enclosed in a ring; slightly concave base with polished pontil mark; enameled "40." in dark brown enamel on the pontil mark. (Ab) Hollow, double-bulbous shape; cylindrical shank; ground, flat end, inscribed "40-" in dark brown enamel. (B-D) Cylindrical, straight-sided, slightly tapered shape; ground flat rim, gilt; enameled tan label imitation parchment scrolls, inscribed in orange and brown enamel, on (B): "Prosit."; on (C) and (D): "Zur Gesundheint."; enameled yellow and brown pendant cord and tassels, below; flat base.Provenance
