Hunting was a popular pastime, and often culminated in drinking celebrations.

Physical DescriptionClear glass with minute bubbles and slight grey tinge; wear marks at base; free-blown, enameled and gilded. Almost cylindrical Humpen slightly tapering at upper part, straightening out again at lip, pushed up base with rough pontil mark, applied foot ring; enamel decoration: on the body in multicolored enamel, an elaborate hunting scene, with a large white net running spirally around the vessel from top to bottom; a multitude of hounds hunting stags, deer, hares, boar, fox and bear; leaf sprays, trees, tree trunks, grass tufts, etc. fill the empty spaces; a tall hunter blowing through a horn and holding a halberd, proceeds to the left in the lower section while another smaller one, also with a spear or halberd, moves toward the left in the upper section; the scene is framed at top and bottom by four plain blue, yellow and green lines, above the upper lines the inscription: "IAEGER SAUF DICH VOLL SO LAUFEN DIR DIE HUNDE WOLL 1585." (Hunter, drink, fill yourself up then your hounds will run well.); below rim a gilded band, a scale pattern with central green beads; above a row of white beads, on the base in red: "IG 301 a".
